With the volumes of road deaths caused by distracted driving, much of which cell phones are a cause of, Apple aims to assist drivers by blocking text messages. The phone detects that its owner is in a car and not using Apple CarPlay, and mute notifications, sending a automated text message.

Do Not Disturb While Driving (DNDWD) will launch this autumn as part of iOS 11 for the iPhone and iPad.
